On Saturday 3 December Strathfield Council hosted celebrations for International Day of Disability, which included a petting zoo, disco, bicycle clinic and a fantastic sausage sizzle.

Many people with a disability are fearful of approaching figures of authority. To help them overcome this trepidation, Council invited the NSW Fire Brigade and NSW Police to attend the event. Unfortunately, soon after arriving, the Fire Brigade were called away to an incident however the NSW Police Patrol Car remained for the entire event and was an absolute hit with the children.

As part of the event, Council hosted an expo of service providers who assist families of children with a disability. These groups were also able to provide information on the National Disability Insurance Sheme, which provided much needed peace of mind for families.
